The 11th edition of the Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival will visit eight out of the nine Yorkshire racecourses, starting at Ripon on Saturday 21 July and finishing at Pontefract on Sunday 29 July - stopping at Catterick on Wednesday 25 July.
Here’s what to expect when the Summer Festival visits Catterick:
There’s seven thrilling races planned, with the first race scheduled for 2.10pm. The card will see The Smith & Graham/Love Property Nursery Handicap Stakes at 3.10pm and The Racing Welfare Claiming Stakes at 3.40pm, while the feature race of the day - The Sky Bet Go-Racing-in-Yorkshire Summer Festival Handicap Stakes, with a total prize fund of £11,600, is scheduled for 4.10pm.
Racing Welfare are the official charity for the summer festival this year, and they will be at Catterick on Wednesday 25 July with a group of retired stable staff and jockeys who will be sharing their stories and experiences in racing with racegoers throughout the afternoon.
Racing Welfare will also be bringing an equicizer along for brief jockey demonstrations before racing, following which racegoers will have the opportunity to have a go on the simulator and feel what it’s like to ride a winner!
In support of Racing Welfare, Millbry Hill Country Store are generously giving grooming kits to the Best Turned Out winner of each race on Wednesday 25 July, in addition to the £50 cash prize. Plus each lad/lass leading up on the day will receive a £5 Millbry Hill Country Store voucher!
Festival Freddie, a favourite among younger racegoers, will also be in attendance and there will be free children’s entertainment, including bouncy castles, a giant colouring board and a roundabout, in the Course Enclosure throughout the afternoon – the perfect setting for an afternoon with the family!
Under 18’s are admitted free of charge to all of Catterick’s fixtures, when accompanied by an adult.
A big screen will be at the course on the day giving race goers the best view of all the action and the free shuttle bus will be running to take racegoers from Richmond Market Place to the racecourse, approximately one hour prior to the first race, and will return again after the last race.
