The festive season has long been a popular time to visit Catterick Racecourse, with racing enthusiasts making it a tradition to attend the fixtures on 28 December and New Year’s Day.
The New Year’s Day meeting is particularly special, marking the first fixture of the 2025 Yorkshire racing calendar and one of the feature race days at the North Yorkshire track. This year’s event will showcase a six-race card, with the first race at 12:45pm and the final race at 3:39pm. Gates will open to the public at 10:45am.
In addition to thrilling racing action on 1 January, Catterick Racecourse is excited to unveil its newly completed Horseshoe Café Bar, which will be officially opened ahead of the first race. The £1 million redevelopment provides a large, vibrant, and contemporary space for racegoers to relax, enjoy refreshments, and soak in the atmosphere right in the heart of the Paddock.
Emma Stevenson, General Commercial Manager, said: “We’re thrilled to continue the tradition of New Year’s Day racing and introduce the new Horseshoe Café Bar to our visitors. The response from racegoers has been fantastic, and it’s the perfect place to kick off the year and recover after the festivities of the night before!”
Racegoers attending the New Year’s Day fixture will also have the chance to win a pair of Grandstand & Paddock admission tickets to a meeting of their choice in 2025, by entering the prize draw via Raceday Ready – the official racecourse app.
The New Year’s Day meeting is the first of 26 fixtures scheduled at Catterick Racecourse in 2025, including 10 National Hunt and 16 Flat fixtures.
Following the New Year’s Day races, Catterick’s National Hunt season will continue on Thursday, 9 January, with its most prestigious race – the North Yorkshire Grand National. Sponsored by WF Racing, the Richmond-based racecourse supplier firm, the North Yorkshire Grand National is a highlight of the season. Last year, TRACK AND TRACE, ridden by Richie McLernon and trained by Jonjo O’Neill, clinched victory in the race, completing a hat-trick for the pair. While Yorkshire-based trainers have enjoyed recent success in this race, with Sue Smith and Phil Kirby winning six of the last eight runnings.
This year’s North Yorkshire Grand National will take place at 3:15pm, as part of a seven-race card. Gates will open to the public at 10:35am, with the first race at 12:35pm.
