Motawaazy or ‘Wazzy’ as he is known at home, is Catterick's Equine Ambassador as part of the ROR Horses for Courses programme. Motawaazy ran 11 times at Catterick between June 2021 and May 2024, winning on 4 occasions. He has now retired from racing and has moved home with his owner Victoria Greetham and her daughter Zara. We will be checking in regularly with him to see how he is enjoying life after racing!
In this second blog, we learn how Wazzy has settled in at home and has been keeping Zara on her toes! You can read the first blog here.
Motawaazy is enjoying his retirement from racing. He spent a month in the field to relax and did nothing but eat.
He then had a visit from a Physio, who gave him a full MOT to check that he was in good shape to go onto a new career - he passed with flying colours! He enjoyed his stretches and even had a massage.
We have found that he loves rolling in mud and he is really keeping Zara on her toes. As soon as she has given him a bath and got him gleaming, he returns to the mud patch and rolls again!
He has not stopped eating and his waistline has expanded more than we imagined, so much so that his old girth didn’t fit so we have had to buy a longer one! His life revolves around food and he’s very greedy. He always seems to be hungry and whinnies for his next meal. It’s not a bad thing going into winter fat but Zara has now started taking him for a hack every night after school to try to burn some calories!
