The 2021/22 National Hunt Season starts at Catterick Racecourse on Friday 19 November, and with the return of full capacity crowds and new Owners & Trainers facility, there’s a lot to look forward to.
Following on from the successful return of crowds during Catterick’s Flat season, the racecourse team is looking forward to welcoming National Hunt racing fans back to the course this winter. Having raced behind closed doors for most of last year’s Jump Season [except for a brief period with limited crowds over Christmas], spectators will be greeted with a warm Yorkshire welcome to watch the action this season!
The meeting on 19 November is the first of ten National Hunt fixtures to be staged at Catterick this season. Other notable dates include the ever-popular festive meetings on Tuesday 28 December and New Year’s Day, as well as Catterick’s most prestigious National Hunt race, the North Yorkshire Grand National on Thursday 13 January, and the season finale on Wednesday 9 March – Countryside Ladies’ Day.
Additionally, for many Owners and Trainers visiting the course this National Hunt season, it will be their first opportunity to use the new facilities within the Dales Stand, which was officially opened by Rishi Sunak, MP for Richmond (Yorks), on Friday 23 April. The two-storey Owners & Trainers facility features the Swaledale Room on the ground floor where owners can relax with trackside views of the course and enjoy a drink at the bar, while the first floor is home to the Wensleydale Room, a restaurant which offers panoramic views of the whole course.
Catterick Racecourse is also delighted to announce that its long-standing partnership with Millbry Hill Country Store will continue for the 2021/22 National Hunt season. Millbry Hill kindly sponsor the Champion Jockey series, in addition to the popular Ride of the Meeting competition throughout the season.
Emma Jones from Millbry Hill said: “We are delighted to continue to work with the team at Catterick Racecourse and support the Jockey’s for the 2021/22 National Hunt Season. The Jumps action is always exciting and we’re looking forward to the season ahead, keeping an eye out for our Ride of the Season and Champion Jockey along the way!”
Millbry Hill gives each Ride of the Meeting winner a £20 voucher to use at one of their stores, or online whilst the Breeze Up Collection, part of the Celtic Equine group, will also continue their support of the Ride of the Meeting series, giving each winner a pair of goggles. At the end of the season, there is a public vote on social media for the Ride of the Season and the winning jockey will receive a grand prize.
This year, the public and racing staff alike will also be able to nominate a jockey that they think should win the ride of the meeting at each fixture – simply by emailing their nomination to info@catterickbridge.co.uk. Remember, the Ride of the Meeting winner doesn’t have to have won the race…
