As British racing returns this month, Catterick Racecourse is preparing for its first meeting of the 2020 Flat season to take place behind closed doors on Thursday 2 July, nearly three months later than orignally planned.
Racing and other professional sports received the go-ahead from the Government to return behind closed doors on 1 June, following the suspension caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
Catterick Racecourse has six fixtures taking place up to the end of August, with all meetings taking place behind closed doors, without a crowd, until further notice.
Extensive measures have been implemented by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) to ensure that racing can return safely, these include:
- Three-step screening process, including temperature checks prior to arrival at the course.
- Only essential participants allowed on the racecourse.
- Two metres social distancing maintained in all areas as well as one-way systems, with a specially designated social distancing officer to enforce measures.
- Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worn by all participants.
- Regular hand washing and hand sanitisers in place.
- Frequently touched areas cleaned and disinfected regularly.
In line with the BHA guidelines for the resumption of racing, security personnel will be in position at all access points on racedays to ensure there is no unauthorised public access to the course, in order to maintain a safe environment for all participants.
